Create Your First Agent

Build and deploy an AI agent in under 5 minutes. Step-by-step guide from signup to embedding.

Create a working AI agent and embed it on your website in under 5 minutes. By the end of this guide, you'll have an agent answering questions based on your content.

Prerequisites

  • An Agentkit account (sign up free)
  • A website URL or document to train your agent on

Step 1: Start the Create Wizard

  1. Log in to your dashboard
  2. Click Add AI agent

You'll land in a four-step setup wizard: Link, Sources, Design, AI.

Step 2: Add Training Content

You can either point the wizard at a website URL (it extracts your brand colors, logo, and a list of pages to crawl) or skip straight to manual sources. Either way, you'll end up on the Sources step, where you can add more content from these source types:

Website

  1. Enter a URL from your site (e.g., your FAQ page)
  2. Click Crawl Website
  3. Wait for crawling to complete (usually 10-30 seconds)

Files

  1. Choose Files
  2. Drag and drop a PDF, Word doc, or text file
  3. Wait for processing to complete

Text

  1. Choose Text
  2. Paste or type your content
  3. Add a title and click Create Snippet

Q&A

  1. Choose Q&A
  2. Add a question and the exact answer you want the agent to give
  3. Click Create Q&A

For best results, start with your most important content - FAQ pages, main product docs, or key policies.

Step 3: Customize Appearance

On the Design step:

  1. Set your brand colors (primary color for the chat bubble and header)
  2. Add one or more Initial Messages (e.g., "Hi! Ask me anything about...")
  3. Optionally upload a profile picture or adjust appearance (Light/Dark)

Step 4: Choose a Model and Instructions

On the AI step:

  1. Pick a model (see the Best Practices guide for guidance)
  2. Choose an instructions template or write your own
  3. Click finish — training kicks off and you're dropped into the Playground

Step 5: Test in the Playground

  1. Type a question about your training content
  2. Verify the agent responds accurately

If answers aren't what you expect, add more relevant content in the Sources tab.

Step 6: Embed on Your Website

  1. Go to the Channels tab
  2. Copy the JavaScript snippet
  3. Paste it into your website's HTML before the </body> tag:

  1. Refresh your website - the chat bubble appears in the corner!

What You've Accomplished

You now have a working AI agent that:

  • Answers questions based on your specific content
  • Displays on your website as an interactive chat widget
  • Is ready for visitors to use immediately
